CSCW research, and in particular that based upon Artificial Intelligence techniques, has been done by computers scientists for about ten years, but its applications in engineering design (Mechanical Design, Electronic Design, Building Design, etc.) have not been widely examined. It is a new research direction in the community of CAD/CAM. The concept of "agent", derived from Distributed Artificial Intelligence could be used as an important element of solution for CSCW in Design. The objective of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for people involved in this domain to confront research results and discuss key problems.

Topics

Topics of interest in the workshop include (but are not limited to):

- CSCW system architecture
- Human-human interaction for CSCW system
- Conceptual and theoretical foundations of multi-agent systems
- Agent architectures & decision making
- Intelligent agents
- Detection and resolution of conflicts
- Cooperation, Coordination and Negotiation
- Communication languages, and protocols
- Integrated testbeds and development environments
- CSCW applications in Design or other areas
- Concept of Concurrent Engineering
- Tools and methods for Concurrent Engineering
